Kenneth Rodrigues I and II: Like Father, Like Son
The name Kenneth Rodrigues has become associated with a high level of excellence over the past three decades. Rodrigues’ architectural firm — Kenneth Rodrigues & Partners, Inc. — has been one of the top in its profession in Silicon Valley for a quarter century. At the same time, Rodrigues also had a very successful run as a professional race car driver in the 1980s and 1990s, and still races restored cars in historic events today.
In addition, Rodrigues assembled a large collection of valuable, restored sports cars and race cars — mostly Porsches built between 1965 and 1986, including a treasured 1976 Porsche 934, one of only 31 such cars made that year.
Now, Rodrigues’ son — Kenneth II — while still attending San Jose State University, is following in his dad’s tire tracks. He has a win, two poles earned, and four podium finishes (out of four races) on the Sports Car Club of America’s National Championship circuit to-date in 2009 — with plans to move on to one of two open wheel Indy pro circuits in the next year or two.
The Rodrigues Team Chooses Borelli Motor Sports
Something else father and son have in common is Borelli Motor Sports — which offers highly secure, climate-controlled, museum-quality storage and services for vintage, exotic, and high-performance cars at Club Auto Sport in San Jose.
Kenny I stores five cars from his collection at Borelli Motor Sports. And Kenny II has become the latest addition to the Borelli Motor Sports team, working with lead mechanic Scott Riechers and studying for his real estate brokers license, in hopes of getting into commercial real estate brokerage in the near future.
“I chose Borelli Motor Sports for the opportunity to become a part of the unique Club Auto Sport environment,” explained Kenny I. “For storage, the facility is second to none. Very professional. Absolutely secure. First class all the way — which is how I like to do things. I also value having Scott Riechers to work on my Porsches.”
Added the younger Rodrigues, “As my dad proved, you can be a pro driver and have a successful business career as well. I think commercial real estate brokerage may be the perfect choice for me.”
A Close Relationship Grows Closer
You may be wondering — have father and son ever raced against one another? The answer is yes. Last year in Monterey, Kenny I and Kenny II faced off in what was the young racer’s first time on the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track.
The result? The two crossed the finish line back-to-back, with the older Rodrigues using his car’s superior horsepower and wings to eke out a 2nd to Kenny II’s 3rd place finish. Not surprisingly, each driver won his class.
“It doesn’t get any closer than that,” Kenny I noted. “The race was really a special thing for us.” Click here for the complete version of the Rodrigues’ story. <pdf>
